Fall will always be back to school time for me, no matter where my life takes me. To date, September has always been about a fresh start and a new opportunity to learn, as I went from being a student for so many years to being a teacher. So no matter what, fall will always feel like the time to buy new pencils, organize my Trapper Keeper (I know, I’m dating myself here) and get in a “It’s time to learn!” mindset. It seems utterly impossible to me that I’m starting my twenty-third (gasp!) year of teaching….twenty-fourth if you count my final year of college, which was my year of student teaching. How is that possible? I can’t possibly be old enough to have been teaching that long nor to have former students from my Special Education teaching days who are now in their late 30’s….yikes! (I taught junior high and high school back in the day.)
Even though my Hop to Signaroo classes run year round, there’s still something new about every fall – the beginning of a new year to learn something new as an educator and entrepreneur and perhaps take my business in a new direction. I’m someone who’s dedicated to lifelong learning and do so throughout the year, but fall will always feel like a fresh start and the time to buckle down and get serious about expanding my mind in one way or another.
With a little one (or more) in the house, running out to take a mind-expanding class may not be on the top of your “to do” list, unless it’s a Hop to Signaroo class, of course! ;0) So how about a trip to one of our fabulous, local museums to expand your mind and your little one’s? How about a free pass to do just that – for not one, not two, but three of our local museums?
King County Libraries is partner with three local museums to offer free passes for KidsQuest Children’s Museum in Bellevue, The Bellevue Art Museum and Washington State Historical Society in Tacoma. Get all the details here. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but despite our good fortune of an exceptionally beautiful, extended summer, the rain is coming. These museum passes will be a great way to escape the inevitable, forthcoming gloom for you and your little one and learn something new for free….free one of my favorite four-letter words! Enoy and happy mind-expanding to you and yours!
